Starfield’s 8th main quest, Further Into the Unknown, provides players with more questions than answers as they begin to learn the dangers of what they seek. Starfield’s hunt for the Artifacts has brought to the attention of the Starborn, an unknown and advanced, potentially alien species that have arrived to warn Constellation that they cannot allow them to continue their hunt.

Ignoring their warning anyway, Constellation decides to resume the hunt for the Artifacts in Starfield, and their journey will take them through a valley of stars as they explore different worlds to further their investigation into the unknown. This guide will explain the essentials for the Further Into the Unknown Walkthrough.

Talk To Vladimir

Heading back to the Lodge, players can converse with Vladimir who has taken a much-needed break from The Eye satellite orbiting the planet that houses New Atlantis. Vladimir will cautiously tell players of two new Artifact leads that he needs players to follow up on and investigate in person. This next part could be dangerous to those that are a rather low level and are in need of XP.

Once Vladimir has sent players on their quest, and they have the confirmed objectives to head to two separate planets, it’s time to head back to the spaceship of the player’s choice and embark back into the stars. It’s worth noting that every player will have a different planet that they have to explore, as Starfield has procedurally generated planets. However, what awaits them on said planets, will always be the same.

Venture To The First Planet

The first planet that the player will be sent to could have anything involved, but in the experience of the guide, this planet guided the Constellation to Ananke, a cold planet located in the Olympus System that held an Abandoned Cryo Lab, filled with dreaded and violent Spacers. Players should head towards the Abandoned Cryo Lab and wipe out the enemies that lurk within to make their hunt for the Artifact that much easier.

The Cryo Lab is filled with loot, providing players some great prizes like Credits, ammo, and guns. It’s even possible to find Harvested Organs, which counts as Contraband, so it’s best to hold off from carrying that around unless players want to risk being a pirate. Nonetheless, advancing through the twists and turns of the Abandoned Cryo Lab, players will stumble across their first Artifact in this location, which is now guarded by a mysterious being of light known as the Starborn. Killing this entity will grant players a Quantum Essence. Now that the threat has been dealt with, mine the Artifact, pick it up, and proceed back to space for the next planet.

Not every player will be sent to the same planet, and not every planet has the same structures. This means that players could find a Cryo Lab, or something else entirely. Either way, players will need to navigate through the location, even if the long winding halls and corridors may confuse some players, but there’s no way to help when each playthrough will feature different challenges at hand.

Go To The Second Planet

For this guide, the planet that was explored was Golga, a planet in the Valo System, and it consisted of a rocky terrain, with a large cave harboring the desired Artifact inside. The cave was empty, lacking any signs of life, hostile or otherwise. This meant that a brisk walk inside the cold cave, and diving to the bottom would net players the Artifact of their desire. However, it’s worth noting that this could be different for every player who embarks on this quest. Regardless, this mission should lead players to a cave, and lurking inside will be what they seek. It just depends on if there are hostiles or not inside.

Like before, a Starborn will emerge to defend the Artifact. Players cannot reason with the Starborn, and they will be forced to kill them, granting themselves another Quantum Essence in the process. Now that the Starborn is dead, players are free to mine for the Caelumite if they feel so inclined. Otherwise, they can just mine the Artifact, pick it up, and head back to the ship to return to the safety of The Lodge on New Atlantis.

Return The Artifacts To The Lodge

Back at The Lodge, players can add the two Artifacts from this mission to the collection in the center of the room. Immediately, Mateo will begin to worry about the Starborn, and present a crisis of faith in their findings, and what could await them out there in the universe. Noel will interject about how their work must continue, and players can either agree or disagree. Agreeing that they must continue will see their companion like their choice of words, but either way, nothing changes about the pursuit of these Artifacts.

The mission concludes after Vladimir joins the conversation and tells the player that he, the player, and a few more Constellation members are needed at The Eye to expand its uses so it can locate more Artifacts. This ends the mission, netting players an achievement, a few thousand credits, and a bundle of XP.
