For some players, this Starfield mission may be an emotional one. The characters all share in their grief at the loss of a crew member so close to their hearts. If players developed a close bond with the departed character, then it can hurt to say goodbye, just as it does in real life. Missed Beyond Measure is a beautiful memorial service for a character many didn’t expect to die.
Talk To Noel
After the High Price to Pay mission, players can talk to Noel at the Lodge. Noel will mention how she wants to set up a funeral for the departed and bring all members of Constellation together to mourn their friend. Players can agree to this memorial service, and give Noel time to prepare for the service. In doing so, the Lodge will be repaired from its destructive mess from the fight with the Hunter, and the characters will begin to heal from their emotional wounds.
Wait 4 UT Days
Attend The Memorial Service
Although players can opt out of the funeral by simply leaving the Lodge, it’s best to attend and show the respect that the departed character deserves. It is a highly emotional mission, and some tears may even be shed, so no one will blame the player if they choose not to attend. However, in attending, players can listen to the characters as they mourn and express their grief.
Even the player can walk up to the podium and say a few words. After this, other members of Constellation will come up to say something about the departed, although their words remain the same for each dead companion, as players will know that not every companion that dies in High Price to Pay is the same, as some players will have a lower bond or a higher bond with certain companions.
Talk To People
In attendance, players can find Matteo, Cleo, Walter, Noel, Vladimir, Aja, Vasco, and the three surviving companions. Talking to each of these characters will provide players with the optional objective completed. It’s also a good idea to talk to them to see how they are coping with their grief and to try and console them, or just listen to their pain. Some characters process grief differently, which is only natural under the circumstances.
Players can talk and interact with the remaining companions which, if players console them correctly, can see them add relationship points, as some characters will get the ‘[character] loved that’ prompt in the top right of the screen. There’s a lot of detail in this mission, and it’s an intimate one for players to respect rather than wave their futuristic guns around. Talking to members like Vasco, players will see how a machine handles the loss of human life. Whereas talking to Cleo, players will experience grief and confusion through the eyes of a child. If players had Sam die in their playthrough, then perhaps Cleo's grief would be far too much for them to handle.
Leave The Lodge
After players have spoken to everyone, or they feel like leaving the service, players can leave the Lodge to end the mission. Players can leave at any time that they wish, and their comfort is their own decision to make. Once players have left the Lodge, they can resume their somber journey through space, never forgetting the tragic loss of their companion and departed friend, as the hunt for the Starborn and the Artifacts continues in their memory. There are more main missions in Starfield yet to come, and mourning a friend was a much-needed interlude.
