Back to Vectera is an interesting mission, and players can assume a bout of violence if they so choose it, or, they can just enjoy a mystery, as Barrett has set a trail of space breadcrumbs, so players can track him down and save him from the Crimson Fleet, who have, once again, decided to make everyone’s lives a misery in the galaxy.
Return To Vectera
The first step players will want to take is to head in their ship to venture toward the Marion system, which should be the first known system to players, as this was where they first encountered an Artifact and met Barrett in the first place. Players will want to take their ship over to Vectera, the moon of the planet Anselon, where they will land at the Argos Extractors Mining Outpost.
Landing here, things might seem colder than usual, but a familiar and somewhat annoyed face will be standing, waiting to interact with the player as they approach. Not to worry, this isn’t a hostile face, and Lin certainly means the player no harm. Quite the opposite in fact.
Talk To Lin
The next important matter once arriving at Vectera is to talk to Lin, the boss of this operation. Lin tells the player that Heller and Barrett have been taken by the Crimson Fleet, and she hasn’t been able to access a broken computer that could lead to a clue as to where they have gone. Vectera is desolate, and she’s hopeless to escape this abandoned mining rig.
Once players finish talking to Lin, they should head beside the destroyed mech that she was talking near, and pick up the Emergency Power Cell, as this will come in handy later. Now that business is concluded here, players should head toward the first building to the right where they can find the computer that may hold the answers they seek.
Fix The Comms Computer
With all three Emergency Power Cells located, players should place them into the empty slots to power on the computer. It’s a good idea to save here, just in case players break the Digipick and they have no spares. Unlocking the door to the computer isn’t that hard, as it’s only a Novice requirement. Once accessed, players can access the computer to find Sensory Array, and listen to the Emergency Transmission that details Barrett’s daring escape from the Crimson Fleet, and the breadcrumb trail he left behind for Constellation to pick up and save him and Heller.
Talk To Lin Again
Now that players have a lead on where to go next, players should head back to Lin to confirm their findings. Talking to Lin will grant her peace of mind knowing that Heller and Barrett are alive, even if she never wants to see Barrett again. Lin tells the player that she’s stranded here until Argos picks her up, but she’s more than happy to join the crew.
If players have the space, then there’s no harm in giving Lin a ride off the surface, but she doesn’t serve much use, considering the best crew members in Starfield will be the ones found in the main Constellation group, due to the fact that they have great stats and can be romance partners.
Find The Crashed Ship
Players need to head back to their ship and embark on the Valo system. Here, they will want to land on Prax and find the Crashed Ship location. In the distance, their treasure awaits, and players will not find Barrett, but instead an injured Heller, who is highly medicated, and enjoying the relaxation of painkillers as he sits and winces on the cold moon surface, waiting for his rescuer to emerge.
When players talk to Heller, he will tell of Barrett’s daring escape, and how things inevitably went wrong. Not to worry about Heller, as he is okay, he’s just a little banged up. Players can now hire Barrett to join their crew, but he doesn’t have great stats. Either way, Heller gives players Emergency Transmission 2, which provides the next piece of evidence needed to locate Barrett.
Head To Bessel 3 And Find Barrett
Alternatively, players can just run past these enemies and head straight to the Crimson Fleet Outpost building toward the center of this area. Once inside, enemies won’t chase in after the player, and players can holster their weapons as they venture inside, only to discover that the ever-charismatic Barrett has somehow made friends with his captors.
Free Barrett From Matsura
Matsura is the captain of this brigade of Crimson Fleet pirates, and he seems to enjoy the company of Barrett as the two discuss their adventures through space, Barrett blags on about seeing a unicorn, or something of the like. From here, there are a few ways that players can deal with the situation. They can negotiate for Barrett with Credits, words, or violence.
Persuade Matsura The Grim To Free Barrett: Through the Persuade tactic, players can avoid violence altogether, and get Barrett freed without having to spend a dime. This is the best decision to make, and it’s rather to convince Matsura that Barrett isn’t worth the trouble, and the two have become good friends.
Allow Sarah To Intervene: Sarah can speak on behalf of Constellation and help free Barrett due to the funds that Constellation has access to, specifically for situations like this when one of their adventuring members gets caught up in a case of pirate ransom.
Attack The Crimson Fleet: Attacking Matsura and the Crimson Fleet will turn the whole base hostile, and it would be a shame to see Barrett lose a friend. However, these are violent space pirates, so if players can’t seem to talk or buy their way out of this situation, then this is the answer for them.
Any non-hostile option chosen means that every Crimson Fleet NPC outside this room is now non-hostile, and will not shoot the player like they first did when the player initially landed. However, this does not mean that the Crimson Fleet is now non-hostile, as this was just a one-time thing.
Return To The Lodge
Now that Barrett has been saved, players can head back to the comfort of the protected planet of New Atlantis, safely in the hands of UC. Players need to embark on the Lodge, allowing Barrett to reacquaint himself with the Constellation crew, and marvel at the newest Artifacts that have been placed in the library.
